The FAO Sugar Price Index of the month of August 2008 reached the 90.4 points, which meant an increase of 2.61% in relation to previous mensual index of July, that was 88.1 points (+2.3 pts), and was placed a 14.17% above the annual average of 79.18 points recorded (+11.22 pts).

The record of this month was the highest value achieved throughout the year, with a difference of 24.35% above the lowest monthly value , that was 72.7 points (-17.7 pts).

In relation to the values of the previous year, in August 2008 there was a year-on-year increase of 48.93%, 29.7 points above the 60.7 pts reached in the same month of 2007.
