The FAO Sugar Price Index of the month of March 2004 reached the 40 points, which meant a increase of 10.5% in relation to previous mensual index of February, that was 36.2 points (+3.8 pts), and was placed a -9.81% under the annual average of 44.35 points recorded (-4.35 pts).

The highest monthly value achieved throughout the year of 52.3 points was 30.75% higgher than the selected month (+12.3 pts), while the lowest value during the period was 35.9, that is 11.42% lower than the 40 points of March 2004 (-4.1 pts).

In relation to the values of the previous year, in March 2004 there was a year-on-year decline of -21.41%, 10.9 points under the 50.9 pts reached in the same month of 2003.
