The FAO Food Price Index of the month of May 2000 reached the 53.6 points, which meant an increase of 0.37% in relation to previous mensual index of April, that was 53.4 points (+0.2 pts), and was placed a 0.52% above the annual average of 53.33 points recorded (+0.27 pts).

The highest monthly value achieved throughout the year of 54.4 points was 1.49% higgher than the selected month (+0.8 pts), while the lowest value during the period was 52.3, that is 2.49% lower than the 53.6 points of May 2000 (-1.3 pts).

In relation to the values of the previous year, in May 2000 there was a year-on-year decline of -3.25%, 1.8 points under the 55.4 pts reached in the same month of 1999.
