The FAO Food Price Index of the month of March 1999 reached the 57 points, which meant an decline of -2.4% in relation to previous mensual index of February, that was 58.4 points (-1.4 pts), and was placed a 3.31% above the annual average of 55.18 points recorded (+1.83 pts).

The highest monthly value achieved throughout the year of 61 points was 7.02% higgher than the selected month (+4 pts), while the lowest value during the period was 51.9, that is 9.83% lower than the 57 points of March 1999 (-5.1 pts).
