The FAO Food Price Index of the month of December 2008 reached the 86 points, which meant a decline of -3.91% in relation to previous mensual index of November, that was 89.5 points (-3.5 pts), and was placed a -26.81% under the annual average of 117.51 points recorded (-31.51 pts).

This is the lowest record reached in the entire year, presenting a difference of +46.5 points (54.07%) with respect to the highest monthly value of 2008, which was 132.5 points.

In relation to the values of the previous year, in December 2008 there was a year-on-year decline of -24.83%, 28.4 points under the 114.4 pts reached in the same month of 2007.
