The FAO Food Price Index of the month of August 2009 reached the 93.5 points, which meant an increase of 3.09% in relation to previous mensual index of July, that was 90.7 points (+2.8 pts), and was placed a 2.01% above the annual average of 91.66 points recorded (+1.84 pts).

The highest monthly value achieved throughout the year of 100.7 points was 7.7% higgher than the selected month (+7.2 pts), while the lowest value during the period was 84, that is 11.31% lower than the 93.5 points of August 2009 (-9.5 pts).

In relation to the values of the previous year, in August 2009 there was a year-on-year decline of -22.79%, 27.6 points under the 121.1 pts reached in the same month of 2008.
