The FAO Food Price Index of the month of August 2008 reached the 121.1 points, which meant an decline of -6.92% in relation to previous mensual index of July, that was 130.1 points (-9 pts), and was placed a 3.06% above the annual average of 117.51 points recorded (+3.59 pts).

The highest monthly value achieved throughout the year of 132.5 points was 9.41% higgher than the selected month (+11.4 pts), while the lowest value during the period was 86, that is 40.81% lower than the 121.1 points of August 2008 (-35.1 pts).

In relation to the values of the previous year, in August 2008 there was a year-on-year increase of 22.45%, 22.2 points above the 98.9 pts reached in the same month of 2007.
