The FAO Sugar Price Index of the month of August 2006 reached the 83.2 points, which meant a decline of -16.21% in relation to previous mensual index of July, that was 99.3 points (-16.1 pts), and was placed a -8.96% under the annual average of 91.39 points recorded (-8.19 pts).

The highest monthly value achieved throughout the year of 111.1 points was 33.53% higgher than the selected month (+27.9 pts), while the lowest value during the period was 71.6, that is 16.2% lower than the 83.2 points of August 2006 (-11.6 pts).

In relation to the values of the previous year, in August 2006 there was a year-on-year increase of 35.28%, 21.7 points above the 61.5 pts reached in the same month of 2005.
