Origin Prices
The origin middle value of Fresh Chicken meat along year 2018 reached the 1.65 euros per kilogram. The highest weekly value achieved throughout the year was 1.81€/kg, while the lowest descended to the 1.53€/kg.
The average of 2018 was -0.01€ under the previous year, which represents an interannual difference of -0.6% with respect the 1.66 euros per kilogram reached in 2017.
The middle value of 2018 is -5.17% under the interannual average of 2009/2023, a difference of -0.09 with respect the 1.74€/kg of the last 15 years. In the year-on-year graph below you can check the evolution of prices throughout the period in more detail.
Retail Prices
Regarding the retail average, this reached the 3.065 euros per kilogram. The highest weekly value achieved throughout the year was 3.11€/kg, while the lowest descended to the 2.99€/kg.
The average of 2018 was 0.09€ above the previous year, which represents an interannual difference of 3.2% with respect the 2.97 euros per kilogram reached in 2017.
The selected year value is the highest average reached along the entire period 2009/2023, with a difference of 0.14€/kg above the interannual average of 2.93€/kg, that means an increase of 4.61% with respect the arithmetic mean of the last 15 years.

Price Index Origin-Retail. This is the number of times the price is multiplied from what the producer receives to what the consumer pays (origin and retail)
The averaged retail price of Fresh Chicken meat throughout the year 2018 was 3.07€/kg. On the other hand, the average of the prices at origin was 1.65 euros per kilogram. That means, for each euro paid by the final consumers to acquire this product, the ranchers received 53.8 eurocents.
During the marketing phase there was added the 46.2 cents remaning of the euro paid by the final buyer. In percentage terms, the difference between the average annual price of fresh chicken in origin and retail was of 85.76%.
The Price Index Origin-Retail for chicken throughout the year 2018 was of (x)1.86. This PIOR indicates the number by which the price is multiplied from the farm to the consumer's table, the difference between what we pay for food in the store and the price the rancher sold it for.
