Origin Prices
The origin middle value of Lemon along year 2018 reached the 0.513 euros per kilogram. The highest weekly value achieved throughout the year was 0.94€/kg, while the lowest descended to the 0.25€/kg.
The average of 2018 was 0.07€ above the previous year, which represents an interannual difference of 16.59% with respect the 0.44 euros per kilogram reached in 2017.
The middle value of 2018 is 38.65% above the interannual average of 2009/2023, a difference of 0.14 with respect the 0.37€/kg of the last 15 years. In the year-on-year graph below you can check the evolution of prices throughout the period in more detail.
Wholesale Prices
Regarding the wholesale average, this reached the 1.154 euros per kilogram. The highest weekly value achieved throughout the year was 1.65€/kg, while the lowest descended to the 0.88€/kg.
The average of 2018 was 0.14€ above the previous year, which represents an interannual difference of 14.26% with respect the 1.01 euros per kilogram reached in 2017.
The middle value of 2018 is 20.21% above the interannual average of 2009/2023, a difference of 0.19 with respect the 0.96€/kg of the last 15 years.
Retail Prices
Regarding the retail average, this reached the 2.248 euros per kilogram. The highest weekly value achieved throughout the year was 2.64€/kg, while the lowest descended to the 1.92€/kg.
The average of 2018 was 0.21€ above the previous year, which represents an interannual difference of 10.2% with respect the 2.04 euros per kilogram reached in 2017.
The middle value of 2018 is 23.52% above the interannual average of 2009/2023, a difference of 0.43 with respect the 1.82€/kg of the last 15 years.

Price Index Origin-Retail. This is the number of times the price is multiplied from what the producer receives to what the consumer pays (origin and retail)
The averaged retail price of Lemon throughout the year 2018 was 2.25€/kg. On the other hand, the average of the prices at origin was 0.51 euros per kilogram. That means, for each euro paid by the final consumers to acquire this product, the farmers received less than a quarter, 22.8 eurocents.
As regards Distribution, the average of the prices collected by Mercasa that year stood at 1.154 euros, so that the second link in the agri-food chain was responsible of 28.5 cents in the construction of that euro paid in the shop to buy lemons.
In last place, during the marketing phase there was added the 48.7 cents remaning of the euro paid by the final buyer. In percentage terms, the difference between the average annual price of lemon in origin and retail was of 338.21%.
The Price Index Origin-Retail for lemon throughout the year 2018 was of (x)4.38. This PIOR indicates the number by which the price is multiplied from the farm to the consumer's table, the difference between what we pay for food in the store and the price the farmer sold it for.
