Origin Prices

The origin middle value of Italian Green Pepper along year 2010 reached the 0.815 euros per kilogram. The highest weekly value achieved throughout the year was 1.99€/kg, while the lowest descended to the 0.33€/kg.

The average of 2010 was 0.14€ above the previous year, which represents an interannual difference of 19.85% with respect the 0.68 euros per kilogram reached in 2009.

The middle value of 2010 is 14.79% above the interannual average of 2009/2023, a difference of 0.11 with respect the 0.71€/kg of the last 15 years. In the year-on-year graph below you can check the evolution of prices throughout the period in more detail.

Wholesale Prices

Regarding the wholesale average, this reached the 1.147 euros per kilogram. The highest weekly value achieved throughout the year was 2.63€/kg, while the lowest descended to the 0.61€/kg.

The average of 2010 was 0.16€ above the previous year, which represents an interannual difference of 15.86% with respect the 0.99 euros per kilogram reached in 2009.

The middle value of 2010 is -3.61% under the interannual average of 2009/2023, a difference of -0.04 with respect the 1.19€/kg of the last 15 years.

Retail Prices

Regarding the retail average, this reached the 2.072 euros per kilogram. The highest weekly value achieved throughout the year was 2.86€/kg, while the lowest descended to the 1.79€/kg.

The average of 2010 was -0.02€ under the previous year, which represents an interannual difference of -0.86% with respect the 2.09 euros per kilogram reached in 2009.

Construction of Retail's Average Price of Italian Green Pepper during 2010

The averaged retail price of Italian Green Pepper throughout the year 2010 was 2.07€/kg. On the other hand, the average of the prices at origin was 0.82 euros per kilogram. That means, for each euro paid by the final consumers to acquire this product, the farmers received 39.3 eurocents.

As regards Distribution, the average of the prices collected by Mercasa that year stood at 1.147 euros, so that the second link in the agri-food chain was responsible of 16 cents in the construction of that euro paid in the shop to buy peppers.

In last place, during the marketing phase there was added the 44.7 cents remaning of the euro paid by the final buyer. In percentage terms, the difference between the average annual price of italian green pepper in origin and retail was of 154.23%.

The Price Index Origin-Retail for pepper throughout the year 2010 was of (x)2.54. This PIOR indicates the number by which the price is multiplied from the farm to the consumer's table, the difference between what we pay for food in the store and the price the farmer sold it for.
