Price Index Origin-Retail. This is the number of times the price is multiplied from what the producer receives to what the consumer pays (origin and retail)
The averaged retail price of Italian Green Pepper throughout the year 2009 was 2.09€/kg. On the other hand, the average of the prices at origin was 0.68 euros per kilogram. That means, for each euro paid by the final consumers to acquire this product, the farmers barely received 32.3 eurocents.
As regards Distribution, the average of the prices collected by Mercasa that year stood at 0.985 euros, so that the second link in the agri-food chain was responsible of 14.8 cents in the construction of that euro paid in the shop to buy peppers.
In last place, during the marketing phase price doubled, 52.9 cents of each euro paid by the final buyer. In percentage terms, the difference between the average annual price of italian green pepper in origin and retail was of 209.47%.
The Price Index Origin-Retail for pepper throughout the year 2009 was of (x)3.09. This PIOR indicates the number by which the price is multiplied from the farm to the consumer's table, the difference between what we pay for food in the store and the price the farmer sold it for.
