The origin middle value of Romaine Lettuce along year 2016 reached the 0.233 euros each piece. The highest weekly value achieved throughout the year was 0.39€/pc, while the lowest descended to the 0.11€/pc.
The average of 2016 was -0.07€ under the previous year, which represents an interannual difference of -22.33% with respect the 0.3 euros each piece reached in 2015.

Wholesale Prices

Price Index Origin-Retail. This is the number of times the price is multiplied from what the producer receives to what the consumer pays (origin and retail)
The averaged retail price of Romaine Lettuce throughout the year 2016 was 0.93€/pc. On the other hand, the average of the prices at origin was 0.23 euros each piece. That means, for each euro paid by the final consumers to acquire this product, the farmers received less than a quarter, 25 eurocents.
As regards Distribution, the average of the prices collected by Mercasa that year stood at 0.42 euros, so that the second link in the agri-food chain was responsible of 20 cents in the construction of that euro paid in the shop to buy lettuces.
In last place, during the marketing phase price doubled, 55 cents of each euro paid by the final buyer. In percentage terms, the difference between the average annual price of romaine lettuce in origin and retail was of 300.43%.
The Price Index Origin-Retail for lettuce throughout the year 2016 was of (x)4. This PIOR indicates the number by which the price is multiplied from the farm to the consumer's table, the difference between what we pay for food in the store and the price the farmer sold it for.
