The FAO Sugar Price Index of the month of April 2003 reached the 48 points, which meant an decline of -5.7% in relation to previous mensual index of March, that was 50.9 points (-2.9 pts), and was placed a 9.44% above the annual average of 43.86 points recorded (+4.14 pts).

The highest monthly value achieved throughout the year of 55.7 points was 16.04% higgher than the selected month (+7.7 pts), while the lowest value during the period was 36.9, that is 30.08% lower than the 48 points of April 2003 (-11.1 pts).

In relation to the values of the previous year, in April 2003 there was a year-on-year increase of 12.68%, 5.4 points above the 42.6 pts reached in the same month of 2002.
