The FAO Food Price Index of the month of May 2012 reached the 119 points, which meant a decline of -4.34% in relation to previous mensual index of April, that was 124.4 points (-5.4 pts), and was placed a -3.13% under the annual average of 122.84 points recorded (-3.84 pts).

The highest monthly value achieved throughout the year of 125.8 points was 5.71% higgher than the selected month (+6.8 pts), while the lowest value during the period was 115.9, that is 2.67% lower than the 119 points of May 2012 (-3.1 pts).

In relation to the values of the previous year, in May 2012 there was a year-on-year decline of -11.98%, 16.2 points under the 135.2 pts reached in the same month of 2011.
