The FAO Food Price Index of the month of May 2003 reached the 56.3 points, which meant a increase of 1.26% in relation to previous mensual index of April, that was 55.6 points (+0.7 pts), and was placed a -2.57% under the annual average of 57.78 points recorded (-1.48 pts).

The highest monthly value achieved throughout the year of 62.4 points was 10.83% higgher than the selected month (+6.1 pts), while the lowest value during the period was 55.5, that is 1.44% lower than the 56.3 points of May 2003 (-0.8 pts).

In relation to the values of the previous year, in May 2003 there was a year-on-year increase of 11.49%, 5.8 points above the 50.5 pts reached in the same month of 2002.
