The FAO Food Price Index of the month of March 2012 reached the 125.8 points, which meant an increase of 0.32% in relation to previous mensual index of February, that was 125.4 points (+0.4 pts), and was placed a 2.41% above the annual average of 122.84 points recorded (+2.96 pts).

The record of this month was the highest value achieved throughout the year, with a difference of 8.54% above the lowest monthly value , that was 115.9 points (-9.9 pts).

In relation to the values of the previous year, in March 2012 there was a year-on-year decline of -6.33%, 8.5 points under the 134.3 pts reached in the same month of 2011.
