The FAO Food Price Index of the month of March 1997 reached the 72.8 points, which meant an increase of 2.54% in relation to previous mensual index of February, that was 71 points (+1.8 pts), and was placed a 3.09% above the annual average of 70.62 points recorded (+2.18 pts).

The highest monthly value achieved throughout the year of 73.4 points was 0.82% higgher than the selected month (+0.6 pts), while the lowest value during the period was 68, that is 7.06% lower than the 72.8 points of March 1997 (-4.8 pts).

In relation to the values of the previous year, in March 1997 there was a year-on-year decline of -7.38%, 5.8 points under the 78.6 pts reached in the same month of 1996.
