The FAO Food Price Index of the month of January 1996 reached the 77 points, which meant a decline of -1.28% in relation to previous mensual index of December UNDEF(of) 1995, that was 78 points (-1 pts), and was placed a -0.84% under the annual average of 77.65 points recorded (-0.65 pts).

The highest monthly value achieved throughout the year of 82.4 points was 7.01% higgher than the selected month (+5.4 pts), while the lowest value during the period was 71.4, that is 7.84% lower than the 77 points of January 1996 (-5.6 pts).

In relation to the values of the previous year, in January 1996 there was a year-on-year increase of 5.62%, 4.1 points above the 72.9 pts reached in the same month of 1995.
