The FAO Food Price Index of the month of October 1996 reached the 74.1 points, which meant a decline of -3.64% in relation to previous mensual index of September, that was 76.9 points (-2.8 pts), and was placed a -4.57% under the annual average of 77.65 points recorded (-3.55 pts).

The highest monthly value achieved throughout the year of 82.4 points was 11.2% higgher than the selected month (+8.3 pts), while the lowest value during the period was 71.4, that is 3.78% lower than the 74.1 points of October 1996 (-2.7 pts).

In relation to the values of the previous year, in October 1996 there was a year-on-year decline of -7.84%, 6.3 points under the 80.4 pts reached in the same month of 1995.
