The origin middle value of Clams (Chamelea gallina) along year 2017 reached the 4.724 euros per kilogram. The highest weekly value achieved throughout the year was 6.22€/kg, while the lowest descended to the 2.62€/kg.

The average of 2017 was 1.33€ above the previous year, which represents an interannual difference of 39.35% with respect the 3.39 euros per kilogram reached in 2016.

The selected year value is the highest average reached along the entire period 2009/2023, with a difference of 1.39€/kg above the interannual average of 3.33€/kg, that means an increase of 41.86% with respect the arithmetic mean of the last 15 years. Wholesale Prices

Regarding the wholesale average, this reached the 5.575 euros per kilogram. The highest weekly value achieved throughout the year was 7.19€/kg, while the lowest descended to the 4.88€/kg.

The average of 2017 was 0.42€ above the previous year, which represents an interannual difference of 8.25% with respect the 5.15 euros per kilogram reached in 2016.

The middle value of 2017 is 10.83% above the interannual average of 2009/2023, a difference of 0.54 with respect the 5.03€/kg of the last 15 years.

Retail Prices

Regarding the retail average, this reached the 10.131 euros per kilogram. The highest weekly value achieved throughout the year was 10.57€/kg, while the lowest descended to the 9.38€/kg.

The average of 2017 was 0.49€ above the previous year, which represents an interannual difference of 5.09% with respect the 9.64 euros per kilogram reached in 2016.

The middle value of 2017 is 8.47% above the interannual average of 2009/2023, a difference of 0.79 with respect the 9.34€/kg of the last 15 years.

Construction of Retail's Average Price of Clams (Chamelea gallina) during 2017

The averaged retail price of Clams (Chamelea gallina) throughout the year 2017 was 10.13€/kg. On the other hand, the average of the prices at origin was 4.72 euros per kilogram. That means, for each euro paid by the final consumers to acquire this product, the fishers received 46.6 eurocents.

As regards Distribution, the average of the prices collected by Mercasa that year stood at 5.575 euros, so that the second link in the agri-food chain was responsible of 8.4 cents in the construction of that euro paid in the shop to buy clams.

In last place, during the marketing phase there was added the 45 cents remaning of the euro paid by the final buyer. In percentage terms, the difference between the average annual price of clams (chamelea gallina) in origin and retail was of 114.46%.

The Price Index Origin-Retail for clam throughout the year 2017 was of (x)2.14. This PIOR indicates the number by which the price is multiplied from the fish auction to the consumer's table, the difference between what we pay for food in the store and the price the fisher sold it for.
