Origin Prices

The origin middle value of the Agricultural Price Index along year 2012 reached the 0.471 euros. The highest weekly value achieved throughout the year was 0.62€, while the lowest descended to the 0.36€.

The average of 2012 was 0.05€ above the previous year, which represents an interannual difference of 12.14% with respect the 0.42 euros reached in 2011.

The middle value of 2012 is -7.65% under the interannual average of 2009/2023, a difference of -0.04 with respect the 0.51€ of the last 15 years. In the year-on-year graph below you can check the evolution of prices throughout the period in more detail.

Wholesale Prices

Regarding the wholesale average, this reached the 0.829 euros. The highest weekly value achieved throughout the year was 1.07€, while the lowest descended to the 0.67€.

The average of 2012 was 0.05€ above the previous year, which represents an interannual difference of 6.28% with respect the 0.78 euros reached in 2011.

The middle value of 2012 is -11.81% under the interannual average of 2009/2023, a difference of -0.11 with respect the 0.94€ of the last 15 years.

Retail Prices

Regarding the retail average, this reached the 1.599 euros. The highest weekly value achieved throughout the year was 1.67€, while the lowest descended to the 1.52€.

The average of 2012 was 0.02€ above the previous year, which represents an interannual difference of 1.2% with respect the 1.58 euros reached in 2011.

The middle value of 2012 is -7.57% under the interannual average of 2009/2023, a difference of -0.13 with respect the 1.73€ of the last 15 years.

Construction of Retail's Average Price of the Agricultural Price Index during 2012

Throughout the year 2012 averaged retail price of the 15 products collected in the greengrocery zone of the Food Prices Monitor in Spain was 1.6€. On the other hand, the average of the prices at origin was 0.47 euros. That means, for each euro paid by the final consumers to acquire these products, the farmers received little more than a quarter, 29.5 eurocents.

As regards Distribution, the average of the prices collected by Mercasa that year stood at 0.829 euros, so that the second link in the agri-food chain was responsible of 22.4 cents in the construction of that euro paid in the shop.

In last place, during the marketing phase there was added the 48.2 cents remaning of the euro paid by the final buyer. In percentage terms, the difference between the average annual price in origin and retail was of 239.49%.

The Price Index Origin-Retail throughout the year 2012 was of (x)3.39. This PIOR indicates the number by which the price is multiplied from the farm to the consumer's table, the difference between what we pay for food in the store and the price the farmer sold it for.
