The FAO Food Price Index of the month of May 2008 reached the 130 points, which meant an decline of -0.31% in relation to previous mensual index of April, that was 130.4 points (-0.4 pts), and was placed a 10.63% above the annual average of 117.51 points recorded (+12.49 pts).

The highest monthly value achieved throughout the year of 132.5 points was 1.92% higgher than the selected month (+2.5 pts), while the lowest value during the period was 86, that is 51.16% lower than the 130 points of May 2008 (-44 pts).

In relation to the values of the previous year, in May 2008 there was a year-on-year increase of 50.81%, 43.8 points above the 86.2 pts reached in the same month of 2007.
