The FAO Food Price Index of the month of May 2006 reached the 71 points, which meant a increase of 1.87% in relation to previous mensual index of April, that was 69.7 points (+1.3 pts), and was placed a -2.16% under the annual average of 72.57 points recorded (-1.57 pts).

The highest monthly value achieved throughout the year of 78.6 points was 10.7% higgher than the selected month (+7.6 pts), while the lowest value during the period was 69.4, that is 2.31% lower than the 71 points of May 2006 (-1.6 pts).

In relation to the values of the previous year, in May 2006 there was a year-on-year increase of 7.09%, 4.7 points above the 66.3 pts reached in the same month of 2005.
